If you have children who were/are taking music lessons as teenagers would you consider messaging me?

I hate taking this space for my personal questions, but I've come to appreciate your various experiences and would love some help. I need some practical advice for my son and am trying to make the best decisions for him while taking our whole family's needs into account. If you have a larger family (or have come from one!), with children talented in various activities, your thoughts would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Canadash, we have six children, and the youngest four (ages 12 to 22) are currently taking group voice lessons with a wonderful voice teacher who comes to the house once a week. We spend a portion of the time on new music for our Missa Cantata and the rest of the time he spends on individual solos.

We've been doing this for a couple of months and have learned so much. Each one has a different musical style and interest, of course, but the teacher is gently guiding them to a more classical approach. He pulled out some Italian arias for my son last week and finally has him convinced it's the best way to go, and he's going to do the same thing with my girls after they've learned a few silly songs. : )

I think it's a brilliant approach and it's nice to see a master at work. He draws them in with the pop stuff and then one day suddenly takes out an Italian aria and says, "Let's add this to your repertoire now."

Thank you Julie and to all who messaged me. It's nice to know that this is such a warm community and we have many of the same issues both at church and at home!
