Praise the Lord with Drums and Cymbals..?
  • Hi everyone,

So I came across a beautiful video featuring Diane Bish found here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzrCZPSxedc

Does anyone know where I can find this arrangement? Many performances of this piece do not come close to the beauty of this one!

  • I have a brass and organ arrangement of this at the office. I'll compare when I'm in the office next, and will let you know if it's the same.
  • This arrangement is probably one of Diane Bish's own. In my library I have two arrangements, one from Robert Wallace, II published by AK Brass Press and the other from Donald Rotermund published by MorningStar. Of the two arrangements, I prefer the Rotermund and it matches fairly closely to the video.
  • I have admired this composition ever since I first heard it in the 1970s on the Columbia LP "Music for Organ, Brass, and Percussion" with E. Power Biggs and the Columbia Brass and Percussion Ensemble. A marvelous recording!

I'm fairly certain that the Diane Bish recording referenced here uses an arrangement in B-flat by Thomas Brantigan for 2 trumpets, horn, trombone, tuba, and organ, which was originally published by Canzona Publications. It is now available through The Denver Brass website:

As OrganistRob320 mentioned, the arrangement by Donald Rotermund (key of C) for brass quartet or quintet, cymbals, and timpani is a great arrangement, and is the one that I've used a number of times:

An internet search also surfaced arrangements by Daniel Leavitt, William Picher, Rick Grassler, and Warren Wernick. I'm not sure if all these are still in print.

And then there's the arrangement by John Kuzma (available through The Denver Brass) for 4 trumpets, 2 horns, 3 trombones, 2 tubas, percussion, timpani, and organ, which would make quite a joyful noise to the Lord!

It could be one of her own arrangements since she frequently writes and publishes her own sheet music and albums. Have you checked her site? I play the piece, but only use the organ score.
