The Ideal Catholic Church Musician
  • I've met him, he exists.

He will not listen to anyone, does what he wants, alienates choir members, cantors and congregation. When talking with him he interrupts and will not let you talk. He is incredibly offensive about other church musicians, the higher up the less he likes them, and he likes no one.

If you tell him that so and so in a cathedral in Europe was heard leading the singing of the second to last verse of XyZ hymn and had the choir sing PPP, he will jump in and say that a member of his church in Podunk, USA obviously heard that done by him at his church and the director in Europe has stolen it from him.

This guy gets jobs and holds them until he decides to leave or gets fired.

Why is he the ICCM? The pastors seem to like the guy because when they know that when they fire him or he leaves, no one complains.

    No one complains.

[this is a true story - brilliant musician, no people skills]

I think the nobody complains part is the most important. The ideal Catholic Church musician is one nobody complains about.
