responsory »Media Vita« – Solesmes Version
  • I am an organist and are planning to play the Symphony on »Media vita« by Joseph Ermend Bonnal (1880-1944). As this responsory is no more so well known as it was at the time of the composer, I would like to perform it with the corresponding part of the gregorian chant sung before each movement. I have found a recording of the Solesmes Monks from 1930 which should correspond to the version Ermend Bonnal used for his Symphony.

Now, with great pleasure I found the »1905 Plainchant and Solesmes« on the website. But then I was astonished not to find the response »Media in Vita« in it. All versions I could find of it have slight differences to the sung version. Does anyone know, where I can find the score of the Solesmes version?

I would be very happy for a short answer and thank you in advance for your help!

Such a well known and popular piece and not easy to find...

Below is a scan of the version in the 1949 Roman Antiphonal, this book has a large section in the back with pieces for use during Benediction.

It can also be found in "Plainsong for schools"

A google search for Media Vita search for images finds 2 scans from other books
