    When my choir sings "From Depths of Woe" (Aus tiefer Not) in two weeks, I will play the Reger chorale as an introduction. I am not playing a solo work, just an intro for my choir piece. ;-)

    That issue is covered in the sheet on the opening page just for that reason...

    Essentially, the GIRM is not paying for organists to play at Mass nor for publishers NOT to publish music for organists playing at Mass.

    If they want things done their way we either need job security to protect us from being fired for following the church rules, or direct payment from a GIRM fund when we do get fired!

    Some of these hymns can be played at non-Lenten times also, in example the Exaltation of the Cross, Stations of the Cross, devotions to Our Mother of Sorrows, etc. That is where such preludes could be used.

    Only hymns that specify that it is Lent (in example, Lord Who Throughout these Forty Days) should be reserved and wholly kept within the season.

    Padster, please stop stifling people's creativity in when to use hymns like When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.

    There are 40 days of fasting. One is not required to continue penance on the Sundays of lent or any Solemnities or Feasts which fall during lent. Here in Australia we get St Patrick and St Joseph as solemnities. March 17th and 19th respectively.

    My organ playing is deliberately sparse and minimal during lent. I try to do more things unaccompanied such as chanting the our father and singing the gospel acclamation a capella.

    Working our way for the first time through the liturgical year, I have added Lady Day to the list.

    We are preparing to survey those responding to our offer of free samples pages (thanks to all who did respond) with a few questions that will assist us in the marketing and distribution and fees involved.

    As part of this those who choose to purchase or subscribe also get to request the addition of hymns to the collection - the tunes must be in the public domain. Having that kind of input, like your comment about Lady Day - something that I had not heard of - really assists us in developing this project. Thank you.
