Seeking recordings of sacred music by current composers

About a year ago I fell into the position of hosting a weekly radio program for my local Catholic radio station. (While our station's broadcast area is not very large, we do stream all programming on the internet, so we can reach a worldwide audience) On the program, we talk about and listen to music of the Catholic Church.

I have two questions for you:

    1. In the near future, I would like to do a show (or series of shows) on the music of current composers. Do any of you out there have recordings of your works that you wouldn't mind sharing? If so, I will need some background information as well (on you and the music!) to share with listeners. Please send me a private message if you're interested.

    2. I am also always looking for guests, either by phone or in studio, to come chat about sacred music. Recently, I have had Lowell Davis visit. He teaches chant in Houston. I've also had the privilege of having Fr. Columba Kelly, of St. Meinrad on the air. So I invite you experts in Sacred Music to contact me if you're interested in sharing your knowledge and stories.

    Thanks for considering!

  • "Tenebrae" has a great recording of Will Todd's compositions "Will Todd: The Call of Wisdom". I really enjoy listening to his music and the recording is really well done.

Hello. I have just released a new CD of my Missa Sancti Augustini. It is a setting of the Mass in Latin with chant for the Feast of St. Augustine. It also includes settings of prayers attributed to St. Augustine (of Hippo) in English. The setting is for solo tenor and organ. There are also three solo devotional pieces for organ. Please let me know if you would like a complimentary CD.

Get in touch with Frank La Rocca http://www.franklarocca.com/Frank_La_Rocca_Composer/Welcome.html There are some videos of his music on YouTube (O Magnum Mysterium is one of them). I'm sure he'd be very happy for the exposure.

Then of course there is Mr. Adam Bartlett of Illuminare Publications and Jeff Ostrowski at CCWatershed. Very good composers in their own right.

We probably shouldn't forget the famous James MacMillan.

Thank you to everyone who has responded here and in private message thus far! I am glad that there is interest! I appreciate everyone's suggestions and input.

This is an open ended invitation, so you may contact me at any time if you would like to discuss being a guest on the show.

The radio station website is www.redcradio.org. You can stream to listen and we broadcast at 1pm, central time. Our show is Sacred Sounds. Most of the programming on the station is syndicated with EWTN and Relevant Radio. We have now, only 3 live, local shows, of which Sacred Sounds was the 2nd to be created.

The format of the show changes a little bit from episode to episode. Sometimes there is more talk about music and/or liturgy; sometimes there is more listening to music. And its not just Liturgical Music either, but concert music with Sacred texts, and some devotional music as well. I am trying to help listeners to experience this music, because some of them never get the opportunity. Maybe they will come to love it.

When I have a guest, we generally do much more talking, and usually open up the phone lines to take calls from listeners. On past shows, we've discussed the GIRM and other documents, chant, children's choirs, early music, Vatican II, history of music, origin of certain texts, etc.

Thanks again for all the information!
