ICEL Copyright
  • Does anyone know if I can legally do this for use in my Parish?
The "Praise to You" which I have attached quotes the ICEL "Save Us, Savior" directly. I figured it would be easier for the congregation to pick up considering the pressure I'm under to keep things familiar (we use the Save Us Savior ICEL Chant for Lent), but my desire to move away from Alstott's version.

Have you checked the ICEL web site?
  • Have you asked our resident anarchist his opinion?

  • Check what sort of license your parish has. If it is through Word of Life International, you should be fine, but I recently received a notice that GIA, OCP and Willow Publications have withdrawn from some of the licensing scheme.

I didn't understand at first what bkenney needed, but this is a little untypical: he's reusing an ICEL melody with another text. I don't expect that they would want to change for this, since it's for a parish's free worship aid. Still, they might want to be notified and grant permission.

    Fixed.
  • Sorry for the unclear post. The issue is exactly what Chonak stated. I'm reusing the ICEL melody for "Save Us, Savior" for the Lenten Acclamation. Also, I'd appreciate thoughts on the flow and "singability" of the acclamation since I have edited it to fit the text.
  • As an aside, does anyone know why I'm getting those annoying dashes after my punctuation in the gabc output?

You're not adding a space where you should be. Post the GABC here, and I'll show you how to fix it in 2 secs.

I believe if you have altered the melody more than 30% its considered a new work.

This statement has no basis in fact.
    FYI

  • Ah, figured out the dashes. Thanks, Ben.
  • Msgr. Wadsworth assures me no permission is needed, so I think we'll use something like this this year. Any comments before I subject my congregation to it?

I like it - might subject my congregation to it, as well.
  • Okay, I have attached two. One uses the modified "Save Us, Savior" and the other a modified version of the "We Proclaim Your Death." Any preferences? I think I'm leaning toward option 2.
