    On Saturdays, the NY Times usually runs a "Beliefs" column. On Feb. 1, it was about the work of Vern Bengtson, a professor of social science, who has studied a group of families over decades, including the way that faith was passed on. Near the end of the essay, the focus switches to Bengtson himself, and his own faith.

    I've been there. I think this must be an almost universal human reaction.

    So have I. Just a few weeks ago I found myself crying in church because of the beauty.
