Chant for the Genealogy of Jesus
  • Does anybody here have a copy of the chant for the Genealogy of Jesus from St. Matthew's Gospel? I read from the website of Regina Laudis Abbey that they traditionally chant this during Matins of Christmas.

Here are scans from the Proprium Ordinis Praedcatorum: Missale et Lectionarium (editio typica, 1985). I believe there are small variations in the Dominican melody as compared with the Roman version. Maybe someone else would know whether there is a "Benedictine" version as well?

I have something at home that is a lot easier to sing. Schola Cantorum Amsterdam sung it at Christmas matins yearly until this service was crowded out by other services on Christmas eve a couple of decades ago in the church we now sing in. We sometimes sing it presently just before the second vespers of Christmas. (We sing the Christmas Proclamation before the first vespers.) Whether it is Benedictine or not I don't know but there is a good chance it is seeing the background of our conductor at that time. I'll look it up tonight and post it tomorrow.
  • Or you could sing this:

Only Arvo Part could set a text like this...

Here it is. Sorry about the quality and the markups in it. If I recall correctly they're photocopies of photocopies - and at least 20 years old. It's a lovely melody and a joy to sing. We never had a priest at our office services so the D'nus vobiscum etc. was never sung and the incipit changed to better fit the melody and take account of this.

    http://www.humanities.mcmaster.ca/~renwick/Annex/EPB-06%20Nativity.pdf (page 50) (ENGLISH)

    LATIN: http://www.sarum-chant.ca/office---advent/temporale-files/B-06Nativitatis.pdf?attredirects=0&d=1

Notice any differences between this and the dominican ?
