What's an incise?

    I am beomcing conversant with St. Gall/Laon notation, working through all the serious books, and realized all of a sudden I am in fact not sure what an incise is. As that is sure to be a question that someone might google, I put it up as a question.

    Honestly, on reference seems to be using it differently than another, so as helpfully as you can...

    Someone got to me privately and said that it was any of the breaks or pauses. Except for a full bar, it shouldn't halt the forward flow.

    Any further clarification?
