Los Angeles - Sacred Music at Masses
  • I'm new to Los Angeles. Can anyone recommend any Catholic churches that are known for their sacred music at their Masses? Thanks!

At one time St Charles Borromeo was an ICON. Paul Salamunovich, KCSG was choirmaster and organist. I heard that things have changed, but you might want to check it out. North Hollywood, IIRC.

As a northern Californian I really don't officially recognize that there is a Los Angeles. OTOH, If California ended at Bakersfield......ummm.....I'd lose that solidarity with Californian friends like Chris Allen and MaryAnnCW.
I do have an idea, find out where Fr. John Schiavone is assigned; I can't imagine a parish affiliated with him to not have an exceptional program. Maybe Paul Ford will pipe in. I would NOT go out of my way to hear Mass at the cathedral.

Fr. Schiavone recently moved from being pastor of St. Gregory the Great in Whittier, CA, to being pastor of:

    St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church
    3954 Palo Verde Avenue
    Long Beach, CA 90808

I've enjoyed Liturgies at the Cathedral many times. At least the organ and organist is world class.
