Hymnal Conundrums and Suggestions
I very highly suggest all things ILP. They just came out with a beautiful Spanish Hymnal (Cantoral) and their offering in Credo strike a good mix between beautiful traditional hymnody, while offering the best of those excursions into more contempor…

Gather—Third Edition
I LOVE the St michael hymnal, but for those parishes that are faced with a congregation that would need a bit more of an ease into a beautiful hymnal like St. Michael, I fully endorse ILP's "Credo" hymnal. A bit of mush, sure... but…

America the Beautiful at Mass
Hmm.... I recall the [Missal] propers today saying something along the lines of "All peoples, clap your hands..." and "Bless the Lord, O my Soul..." not sure how patriotic hymns fit into those... Humbly (in my opinion), first c…

Here is an edited version.... I don't know why I'm attached to the dotted-quarter, eighth rhythms, but I am... Thoughts on this version?

Must cantors be Catholic?
Carol, That's interesting, as I originally started working for the Catholics because the Lutherans couldn't afford me! Now, as stated, I have remained in the Catholic Church for much better reasons!

CGZ and Carol, My wife and I thank you and all for the prayers. Believe it or not, I agree with your premise. Those who are not Catholic should not be participating in the Mass. If that were understood and practiced everywhere, it would be a wond…

Carol, Thank you for the kind words. I definitely don't believe that I've "won out." That was a bad choice of words. Its by God's grace alone, through the discernment and care of the Priest that I've been given these o…

I suppose I can only speak to my experience, which, in a way, is what I'm defending. My wife and I are working with our priest toward entering the Catholic Church. We are Catholic at heart and desire to enter fully into the Sacred Mysteries. …

Echoing Serviam, I do think there may be some extenuating circumstances regarding hired musicians. Certainly those that are "volunteering" should be of the Catholic Faith, but in cases where a parish has hired the most qualified candidat…

Salieri, Where does it stand, therefore, if one is Catholic at heart, but have not received their "greencard" yet? (I.e. one is in formation, and fully believes and confesses the Catholic Faith to the furthest possible extent...)

American Copyright Law... Protecting the Composer or Tying the Church's Hands?
Again, I might re-iterate my point that I have no issue paying money for a composer's work. I am a part of a Parish and School operation that is a $1.8 million operation. I have quite a large budget and I have spent plenty of money this year fo…
