This is Jeff Reynolds, AKA: El jefe. I direct 4 Compline Choirs @ Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in the Gold Rush town of Nevada City, CA. Because of our odd voicing; ATBarB; AATB; SSAA; SSAAT and some SATB and TTBB, I've had to compose, arrange, transcribe, and especially realize for Western music readers and instrumentalists; Gregorian Chant, Anglican Chant, Ambrosian Chant, Plainsong, harmonized Anglican chant, Anglican Chant Psalter, Orthodox chant, and know something about Greek (Eastern) and Russian chant, church Latin, church Modes, Macaronic texts, transliteration, fauxbourdon, Sarum, and Psalm Tones into notation that instrumentalists can read. In reality, I use so much Gregorian and Ambrosian Chant that you could consider our product a Roman/Anglican marriage without the guilt but with time for personal examination of conscience.

During Covid I edited my whole library (almost all my own engravings on Sibelius), down to 5342 items, about 10K pages.

Our Compline groups have now chanted around 150 Late Night Prayers in several locations, the complete scores of which I have in the collection and archived.

The 2 gig thumb drive contains 567 megs of material. I tried sending these as an attachment, but our satellite internet (Hughesnet) is much too slow on the upload.

I'm giving away the whole thing on a thumb drive. That's right, no cost.

If you want the Compline Library, I need your street address to which to mail the thumb drive.

To reply directly, my email address is jefe4x4@gmail.com or, PM me your street address.

After much searching, trial and error, we settled on a realized version of the 2005 edition of
An Order for Night Prayer COMPLINE in traditional language Published by the Royal School of Church Music for The Plainsong and Medieval Music Society.

The most important part of our version of Compline is how high quality and effective the musical choices are. For this, I'm thankful to be an Anglican/Episcopalian/Moravian (followers of Jan Huss) with few doctrinal impediments standing in our way.

The Compline Library is in both Sibelius 7.5 and a pdf format, side by side. I have a big stack of thumb drives and they are getting shipped.

Our style is that of the Compline Choir in Seattle's St. Mark's Cathedral. My mentor was the late Peter Hallock.

My last gig was playing bass trombone with the L.A. Philharmonic (1969-2006) and as a studio musician playing a lot of recordings and Hollywood film scores. I was also a full professor of music @ Long Beach State in CA in charge of 80 brass players. My connection with Sacred Music dates back to my 4 decades as choir director at the Moravian Church.

Our F.B. page.
https://www.facebook.com/Trinity-Compline- Choirs-183931914983523/

Here are the file categories. Or perhaps you have a little time to spare to visit a new Catholic community this summer? It is led by my parochial vicar at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham - Catholic Church & Shrine, Houston, Texas, the Rev. Fr. Justin P. Fletcher, and is staffed by other priests including our director of vocations of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, the Rev. Fr. Richard Kramer.

According to a friend who has been here, musical offerings include propers led by a cantor and a capella hymns at the 10 AM Sunday Mass and the John Merbecke setting of the ordinary. "Asperges Me" as appropriate (he was there on Corpus Christi Sunday).

As I understand it, The Woodlands is considered a rather choice place to live.

The Catholic Church of the Presentation

How about the three nocturns being observed as separate night hours?

This came up in "The Other Side of History" by Robert Garland in the Great Courses series. He says that the medieval Divine Office had nine hours: Matins, Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, Nones, Vespers, Compline and Vigils. His focus is 14th century England, so maybe it was a local custom at that time. Then again, Garland admits he is not a medievalist, so he may simply be misinformed.
As mentioned elsewhere, I have completed my project: an organ accompaniment is now available for The Saint Peter Gradual, using Nova Organi Harmonia as a pattern. This was my COVID "lock-down" project (even though I actually worked in my office almost every day!).

N.B. The Ordinariates did not solicit this work, nor is it officially authorized. It is simply my personal project. And it is completed. And it is available for sale.

It is not only complete, but has some extras that aren't in TSPG, but which are in Divine Worship: The Missal. You can find the details on my blog:

http://smcollinsus.blogspot.com/2021/03/divine-worship-missal-chanted-propers.html

Here is an article about the project in The Portal:

https://www.portalmag.co.uk/read-online.php

March 2021 edition, pp. 10-11.

And an interview on the project from The Portal Podcast:

https://soundcloud.com/user-666404058/lent-5-passion-sunday?ref=clipboard&p=i&c=1

Last year, the Prayer Book Society of England celebrated this Holy Communion service: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYpY8JHM7Uc&t=1294s
Apparently, this is how the Holy Communion was celebrated everywhere in the Anglican world prior to the Oxford Movement. However, this is a said service; I wonder how a sung service would be done.

Broadly speaking, how did the pre-Oxford Movement Anglican liturgy looked like? Most Anglican services I have seen were heavily influenced by Catholicism, with chasubles, incense, ad orientem and so on; it is especially with regards to the Sacred music (lots of plainsong). But was this the case prior to the 1840's?

While we ordinarians do not have an official Divine Office approved by the Vatican as of yet available for public purchase (as I understand the situation), this is the closest we have to having one available to the public, approved on an ad experimentum basis by their ordinary.

I post this chiefly so that those interested in having an ordinariate prayer book for their personal prayer life may have one.

Consult your own pastor regarding use in public liturgies, such as Mattins, Evensong, etc.

(Disclaimer: I am not from the chancery or from any official church body.)
