Back to the title of the thread - It's not that Catholics can't sing, it's that they don't want to sing. They just want to be entertained for an hour and then go home.
When I go to mass, I frequently have no desire to sing. Partly it’s the lousy music, partly it’s wrestling with toddlers, but mostly, I would rather listen and meditate.
I think the reality of the mass encourages meditation more than robust singing.
Bhcordova & davido. Thank you for your comments regarding Catholics singing at Mass. (Which I think are both correct to differing degrees in different places. And is something which ought to be discussed here. Perhaps a new thread would be good.)
Unfortunately, this thread was never actually about that: the OP used the title of Thomas Day's book as clickbait for a thread ranting about Donald Trump and immigration law, and to hurl insults at anyone who(m)(?) he thinks supports Donald Trump and/or the Republican party, even to the point of hysteria, calling them/us/whomever "Nazis".
