Can't make it to the East Coast for the Colloquium this year? Whether you are a newcomer to chant or a hotshot choral singer, there's something for everyone in the six different sacred music workshops I'll be offering Tuesday and Thursday evenings in San Francisco in June, July, and August 2015. Hosted by the San Francisco Oratory in formation at Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

Chant topics will range from the basics of 4-line square note notation and the traditional Solesmes method to advanced interpretation of 9th and 10th century manuscripts in St. Gall and Laon notation. The summer of sacred music will culminate in a performance of the Messe solennelle of Louis Vierne with Gregorian chant propers in the context of the Traditional Latin Mass.

Free to attend ($10 music fee for participants), advance registration required. Some sessions open by audition only. Click here for more information, to register, or to request an audition.

Just added: Lacuna Arts Workshop (San Francisco, CA)
Mondays, 6:30–9:00 pm beginning June 1st

Not specifically sacred music-oriented, Lacuna Arts performs a cappella music of all time periods. The summer Workshop series addresses issues of vocal technique, ear training, sight singing, and score reading.

Well, that's assuming we can find 20–40 people who want to sing this major romantic masterwork with the thundering Schoenstein organ of Star of the Sea, San Francisco in the context of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite.

Anyone in the Bay Area, please help to get the word out. Polyphony workshops begin next Thursday, June 9 (by audition only).
