Associate Director of Music and Organist (Madison, WI) (one-year Organ Scholar option available)
  • ABOUT US
St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church (Madison, Wisconsin) is a dedicated and faithful parish community, located on the west side of Madison, Wisconsin. Since our foundation in 1959, our parish family has grown to 2,500 families and counting. St. Maria Goretti is an active and vibrant community through our school, faith formation initiatives, outreach programs, and parish life ministries.

St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church Music Ministry offers a comprehensive vocal and choral music education program for students and adults, an active concert series, choral scholarships, and unique performance opportunities both locally and internationally. Through fine repertoire, advanced vocal and musical education, prayer, and a positive learning environment, members of the parish music ministry develop life-long values which enhance their spiritual lives and the people to whom they minister. Repertoire for each liturgy is drawn from a wide range of liturgical music from throughout the ages: Gregorian chant, traditional hymnody, Renaissance Masses and motets, orchestral Masses, and music from the Anglican choral tradition. St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church is also a proud member of the Royal School of Church Music and educates our choristers utilizing the VOICE for LIFE training scheme.

    POSITION SUMMARY
The Associate Director of Music & Organist will assist Director of Music in the administrative, educational, liturgical, and performance life of the St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church and School (SMG) Music Ministry. The position of Associate Director of Music, with responsibilities divided between the Church and the School, requires an exceptional organist and choral director who can provide outstanding liturgical organ playing (including choral and congregational accompaniment, organ works, and improvisations); train child choristers and Choral Scholars; develop, recruit, train, and direct 1-2 musical ensembles (as assigned), teach music theory and history, and share in the administrative workload of the Ministry. Ample time is set aside for organ practice and some flexibility may be granted to accommodate a recital career.

As the SMG Music Ministry is growing at a faster rate than anticipated, the Parish will be replacing its existing instrument with a new Allen RL-66 (w/ Apex technology) digital organ that will be installed in April 2022. The Pastor and Director of Music, however, are committed to the eventual purchase and installation of a pipe organ. The Associate Director of Music and Organist will play a vital role in the selection and design of a future instrument.
