    Job Description:
    BASIC PURPOSE: Works collaboratively with the Director of Campus Ministry and members of the University Pastoral Ministry Team to evangelize and support students in faith formation. Directs music for University prayer and worship using musical talents to draw students to liturgy and animate liturgy.

    This position is contingent on final approval of funding.



    ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    1. Prepares and directs music that animates weekly Sunday 10 AM and 7 PM Masses, holyday liturgies, Mass of the Holy Spirit, Baccalaureate Mass and other University liturgies.

    2. Provides musical oversight and resources for other Campus Ministry activities (e.g., Charismatic Praise, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament).

    3. Coordinates and leads music for weddings, funerals and memorial services in the University Chapel.

    4. Recruits, trains and prepares student music ministers (e.g., cantors, singers, instrumentalists), and music ministers for University liturgies when students are away (e.g. Christmas Eve Mass, Triduum, summer Sunday 10 AM Mass).

    5. Serves on University Liturgy Committee.

    6. Participates in weekly Campus Ministry meetings, monthly University Pastoral Ministry Team meetings, and programs with colleagues in other departments.

    7. Serves as moderator/leader for at least one other major area of responsibility within Campus Ministry, based on experience and skills.


    Requirements:
    QUALIFICATIONS:

    * Practicing Catholic with strong personal faith life who is committed to the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University.

    * Master's Degree preferred.

    * Committed to working collaboratively with an ecumenical team of colleagues and student leaders.

    * Understanding of Catholic liturgy, training in liturgical practice, training and experience in animating liturgy through music.

    * Experience in playing and leading music from a wide variety of styles, including contemporary praise and worship music and music that reflects the cultural diversity of the Church.

    * Ability to play piano and organ, and can lead students playing a variety of instruments.

    * Ability to integrate various models of musical leadership during liturgy: e.g., cantor, solo instruments, small ensemble of singers or instruments, full choir.

    * Commitment to supporting Catholic students and students from other faith traditions in their faith formation and spiritual growth.

    * Commitment to continuing ministerial development and spiritual formation.


    Additional Information:
    SCOPE:

    * Interacts on a daily basis with students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni and members of the Assumption Community.

    * Is part of a University Pastoral Ministry Team and a subset of that Team that includes the pastoral ministers who oversee major programs (a Catholic deacon, an Assumptionist brother, an InterVarsity Christian Fellowship team director, a Fellowship of Catholic University Students team director, a chaplain to ALANA students and a graduate assistant).

    * Weddings, funerals, memorial services and other non-University events in the University Chapel provide additional income.

    * Ten month position runs from August 1 to May 31. Incumbent is free to contract other work in the months of June and July.

    * Incumbent may be considered for a Minister in Residence position on campus, which includes free simple housing (apartment with private bathroom and small kitchen) in a student residence hall in return for pastoral ministry in one of the University's residential areas.

    * Preference will be given to qualified candidates who can fulfill all of the responsibilities on a full-time basis, but consideration will be given to applicants who can fulfill some, but not all, of the responsibilities on a half-time basis.
