Another neat music resource for kids in the grades 3-8 classrooms is 'The Story of Musical Notes' by Jean Craig and published by Lerner Publications in 1962. It starts with a discussion of the earliest forms of notation, segues to Square and Gregorian notation, covers Diamond and White notation, 16th century English Fasola, shaped notes, and of course, modern notation. Anyone else familiar with this book?
