POSITION FILLED - Director of Sacred Music (PT) - Culver, Indiana
  • St. Mary’s of the Lake in Culver, Indiana is seeking applicants for the part-time position of Director of Sacred Music. The Director of Sacred Music works closely with the pastor and other parish staff to further the mission of the parish and specifically assist in efforts to evangelize and form souls through beauty in the Liturgical Rites of the Roman Catholic Church. Sufficient organ playing and vocal skills are required. Proficiency with common computer software is needed. Knowledge of the metrical hymn tradition and its use in Catholic worship is expected. Familiarity and some facility with the entire musical patrimony of the Church is also preferred, including, though not limited to, Gregorian Chant and Sacred Polyphony. The Director of Sacred Music is expected to accompany the 4:30 pm Saturday Anticipated Masses and 11:00 am Sunday morning Masses, Triduum Masses/Services, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day Masses and the principle Mass on other Holy Days of Obligation. The Director of Sacred Music arranges for appropriate music for special celebrations at the parish such as processions, occasional devotions, and special Extraordinary Form Liturgies. Also expected (with appropriate assistance and support of the pastor) is the recruitment and formation/rehearsing of a permanent parish vocal choir and cantor program, as well as collaboration with the pastor to continually form and further educate parishioners concerning the role and importance of proper liturgical music for Catholic worship. Additional parish office duties assigned as needed. The parish recently installed a Rodgers T967 digital organ. Compensation for accompanying Funeral Masses and Nuptial Masses is in addition to regular salary. Please send resumes to:
