Hickory Grove United Methodist Church in Charlotte has a position open for an Organist.  The time requirements are every Sunday from 8:30am to 10:30am, for a brief adult choir rehearsal and the traditional service, and every Thursday adult choir rehearsal from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.  Additional services include Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, and funerals. Approaching Easter and Christmas, there will be a couple of additional rehearsals.

Qualifications are the ability to accompany the congregation on standard hymns with modest improvisation and appropriate registration, and to accompany a choir under the direction of a conductor, which includes playing by sight and occasionally from open score.  The person hired must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The pay range is $14k-16k per year.  While this position is responsible for traditional worship, HGUMC also enjoys contemporary, African, and Latino services as an integral part of its multi-ethnic mission. You can learn more about us at http://www.hickorygroveumc.com/

To apply, along with attaching a cover letter and resume, please respond to Geoffrey R. Korf, Music Director, at gkorf@hgumc.com with a concise response to each of these four prompts:

    1. Are you legally authorized to work in the United States?
    2. Describe any formal training or study in piano or organ.
    3. Describe any experience in church music (playing hymns) and accompanying choirs.
    4. Are you proficient at playing by sight and from open score?

A pianist with the above-mentioned competencies and a demonstrable interest in developing the skills unique to the organ (legato finger work, pedals, and registration) will gladly be given due consideration. We look forward to hearing from you (please note that e-mail is the preferred method of communication), and we thank you for your interest. Open until filled.
