    I don't buy OCP materials and consider them the worst of the lot. I should note that the lot isn't that great, either.

    The conductor yelling things at the choir ("Refrain! Final ending! Very, very exciting!") is the best thing about that whole thing.

    Hey, OCP, your new music is terrible.

    And they don't care. Really! THEY DON'T CARE.

    OCP's tumorous expansion since reclaiming the NALR catalogue back in the 80's continues unabated as most subscribers don't even employ the new dreck flung at NPM shows; they're too busy singing "Blest be the Lord" and "Sing to the mountains" and GUI every Sunday.
    I liken this situo unto that of a consortium of Las Vegas casinos: they get to play with house money, house rules and besotted civilians happy to part ways with their treasure.

    Admittedly, I kinda like the stuff in their TRINITAS series. (Actual choral motets, using actual liturgical texts or other ancient texts, not meant for congregational use). I also like the St. Meinrad Antiphons, and I'll use a little bit of Walker's stuff (his communion antiphons, mostly). Most of the rest, though, is bad.

    My son, who has no interest in church music really, said, "why in the hell does she keep yelling stuff during the music... couldn't they have worked that into the lyrics?"

    In her defense, I think the audience was given the same books the choir had and she is yelling to them all so they can follow along. The purpose of the showcase seems to be to expose the audience to as many new songs as possible in a brief amount of time. I skipped around the video and agree with nearly all the comments. I do like the new setting of Finlandia better than the other OCP words.

    I beg to differ, Carol. Unlike our dear friend Jackson, I hold FINLANDIA (with Be still my soul) dear to my heart. I, as well, appreciate most of the corpus of work by Hurd and Kingsbury over three decades. All that aside, I found this reworking an utter fail because of the faux-Proulx rearrangement, which thus obscures any efficacy of the new text for me. As my review in the other NPM thread stated, this is redolent of the ages old cliché of appropriating any past and pristine musical work, tinkering with its chassis and exterior and then marketing it as both innovative and one's own genius. That was a predominant tactic in this OCP showcase venture, save for maybe the Sullivan-Whitaker piece.

    I wasn't thinking of "Be Still My Soul" although the accent on "bear patientLY..." does bug me. I was thinking more of the "This is My Song" lyrics which I find faintly anti patriotic.
    OCP has both those sets of lyrics included in their Heritage Missal and yet they dropped "Soul of My Savior." Go figure! I wonder if they will have 3 settings of Finlandia for 2019.

    Sibelius was an ardent enough Freemason that he was a founding member of the Lodge in Finland when it was legalized after the Russian occupation; he also composed ritual music for the movement. He apparently attended church annually at Christmas.

    About Finlandia in particular: its theme repeats the same rhythm six times, so I find it not very interesting.

    How interesting that Sibelius was a Freemason! I never cease to be amazed at the tidbits I learn on this forum. Now if I could just get on Jeopardy instead of yelling answers at my TV.

    What am I to draw from that association, Richard, just an obvious conclusion? Regarding the rhythmic scaffold of FINLANDIA- I "feel" it as an ardent expression of a Scandinavian temperament further edified by the fortitude of its melody. YMOV
