I’m finding many variants that are similar but different, which makes me think it’s a bunch of errata. (Heck: EWTN’s “official” version is missing the whole first sentence!)

I’m partial to older translations, but they use some opaque language in a few places, which makes me wonder whether or not it would be worth updating what we sing on Trinity Sunday to a more contemporary translation, but I’m coming up empty at the moment.
Greetings all,
This is slightly OT, but I know that Sibelius and Finale have been discussed here before. I just wanted to let anyone interested know that Dorico released a new version for ipad today, so if anyone is interested in trying Dorico out for free, this is a good chance to do so. the new ipad version is limited to two instruments (four if you log in with a steinberg account) although that can be expanded up to 12 if you pay a small annual fee.

FWIW, I use dorico pro (currently 3.5) and I LOVE it. I use it to make all my scores and it is very flexible for choral works and for transcriptions of chant. The new ipad version released today is nearly the full desktop program; it's actually quite surprising how much of it they were able to port over and keep the interface and functionality the same. To be clear, it's not 1:1, although it seems that is the end goal (or something close to it). Dorico 4 is expected this fall.

In future, if anyone has any Dorico questions, I'd be very happy to help. I'm active on that forum, and obviously I haunt here as well; my specialty is choral and chant engraving (and organ works) so I know many of the tricks to make these types of projects turn out very well.

Cheers,
James

---
article about the new ipad version: https://blog.dorico.com/2021/07/dorico-for-ipad-available-now-free/
link to the homepage for the desktop version: https://new.steinberg.net/dorico/

I am hesitant to add his name into the litany, as he is not yet beatified. I was directed to do so, and to invoke him as "blessed," but I don't feel quite right about it. I was under the impression that only once a person is beatified is he able to be invoked publicly in the Universal Church. Besides that, invoking him as "blessed" prematurely seems a bit dishonest.

But shouldn't it be this:

PROPITIÁRE, Dómine, supplicatiónibus nostris, pro ánima fámuli tui N., cujus (f. fámulæ tuæ N., cujus vel pl. animábus famulórum famularúmque tuárum, quorum) hódie ánnua dies ágitur: pro qua (pl. quibus) tibi offérimus sacrifícium laudis; ut eum (f. eam vel pl. eos) Sanctórum tuórum consórtio sociáre dignéris. Per Dóminum.

BE favorable, O Lord, to our pleadings for the soul(s) of thy servant N. (handmaid N., or servants and handmaids) whose anniversary is being celebrated today: for whom we offer the sacrifice of praise: that thou wouldst vouchsafe to grant him (her or them) fellowship with thy Saints. Through our Lord.

Is the secret given correct or is the modification correct.
Years ago, I offered my guide to a daily course reading of the Gospels for Lent.*

It occurs to me to offer another personal devotional aid for daily prayer, especially in Lent, that also contains a Scriptural dimension - a form of illustrated Scriptural Rosary. This form has evolved over the course of several years from my own reflections. Some of my own choices for fruits of the mysteries do vary from typical ones - especially for the newer Luminous Mysteries (or Mysteries of Light) that some (or many) may eschew, but they reflect my own reflection on them. I also take a different approach for the 4th & 5th Sorrowful Mysteries - basically, a mash-up of the Stations of The Cross and the Seven Last Words, but NOT in traditional/conventional order but from an order that arose in connection with prayers for other people in distress before I even had the idea of developing the larger aid; if you find the re-arrangements distracting, do as you would prefer. This is just an aid for personal prayer and devotion, and I merely offer it on the remote chance that someone, someday, might find it fruitful in some way. It's designed so it can be viewed on a mobile or other device (I use the Book or Notes app on Apple devices) while praying with your beads (or without them if you don't have them with you!). (And there is some lovely art, including a back piece, as it were.)

* https://forum.musicasacra.com/forum/discussion/15725/in-case-anyone-is-in-want-of-a-course-of-reading-of-the-gospels-for-lent#Item_1

My pastor has asked me to draft processional procedure notes for our wedding coordinators and I'm curious about what is customary elsewhere. When are the priest(s), servers, groom, and groomsmen in place, assuming they aren't part of the procession? Are they already in place when the grandmothers and mothers are seated, or only as the bridesmaids enter? Do they enter the sanctuary discreetly and unceremoniously, or do they ring the bell and expect people to stand? Is there any difference in procedure for a Solemn High Mass versus an ordinary Sung Mass? We have previously tried having the priest enter at the same time as the bride so that there's no confusion about when the congregation should stand, but that didn't always go smoothly, as one priest often took longer to get from the sacristy to the altar than it took for the bride to come up the aisle!

Has anyone here had any experience with Good Friday para-liturgies around the "Burial of Christ"? If so, what prayers and especially songs, were used? [I am speaking here of the Latin Church, not the Eastern Churches where this is a common liturgical practice].

Generally, such practices may be common in areas with Spanish/Portuguese influence (often under devotion to the "Santo Entierro/Enterro). It is like a funeral procession of Christ.

The version used in the Holy Sepulchre consists of Gospel readings in multiple languages, with several chants/responsories from Lent/Tenebrae interspersed. In Braga, it seems they mix a lament chant with the Stabat Mater or some other hymn. The other ones I have experienced thus far as very minimal with regard to prayer, featuring mostly the rosary and Stabat Mater, or instrumental music (like funeral marches) accompanying a procession. Nothing against those, but I am hoping to find something a little more thematic, focusing on the descent from the Cross/burial/entombment of the Lord.

I found an old thread on this forum where someone described a Polish custom, burying the Paschal Candle and featuring some Scripture readings. I'm hoping to get more information (if any) around practices like this.

I have 3 sopranos but they are very out of tune - one lady should be an alto but she is refusing to move - she says she 'cant sing low' but when she tries to sing high it pulls the other 2 down. I'm trying to recruit new members but no luck so far. Am feeling pretty downhearted to be honest - everything we do sounds awful. Am thinking maybe do 3-part things and join the altos and sopranos in a mid-range. Any advice gratefully received!

I tried composing a piece using text from the Diary of St. Faustina, but it's evident my craft is overreliant on software instruments (Vienna Symphonic Library, to be exact). For those who stick to a pen, paper, and piano, what exercises do you do to hone your craftsmanship? I'm sure 4-part writing is one as well as species counterpoint, but anything unique? Species counterpoint and 4-part writing are great, but they are taught EVERYWHERE (Yes, because they help), and I'd like some unique takes on personal routines y'all use to exercise the ear and brain.
I learned on Facebook this afternoon that Arthur Connick, who directs the schola at the ICKSP parish in Oakland, was hospitalized because of complications from Guillain-Barre syndrome. Please pray for him and his family.

If you don't know Arthur, he is the person who created the large format propers that are available on the ICKSP website. I imagine many people used them; I know I do every week.

Is anyone either aware of or have contact with an individual who runs a Catholic Sacred Music Competition that Americans can enter?
This would be for composers, conductors, ensembles/instrumentalists, or all of the above.

I can't find any on google search, but I know they exist...somewhere

If you do, please provide the name and website link. I've so far reached out to the BXVI Institute, Una Voce, CC Watershed, New Liturgical Movement, CMA, the Liturgical Arts Journal, the Catholic Institute of Sacred Music, Anglicanorum Coetibus, and the Cardinal Newman Society. All have responded negatively.

Over on newliturgicalmovement.org I've read under articles some very interesting comments (pertaining to sacred music) by one by name of Richard Llewellyn. I would like to get in contact with him, but my inquiry to the New Liturgical Movement email address received no answer. I am wondering if anyone here knows Mr. Llewellyn, or would have a way to contact him. If you do, please PM me; I can explain more fully why I wish to contact him, and I wouldn't want someone's contact info just put up randomly on a public forum.
