Just finished reading Fifth Avenue Famous by Salvatore Basile. It's the history of the music at St. Patrick's Cathedral (New York) since it's founding. Has anyone else read it?

Yes, because somebody mentioned it here long ago. A fascinating (and a little sad) history.
  • I thought it was entertaining and well written.

I haven't read the book, but it got a lukewarm review in The American Organist, IIRC.

It was an eye-opener for me. I didn't realize that there were so many paid vocal positions in a cathedral. I agree with Jeffrey - it was a little sad, especially the politics.
