Video or sound files for new prefaces?
  • Watching the recently-posted video of Msgr Wadsworth at the Colloquium, I noticed that he mentioned there are videos, or perhaps MP3s, online with recordings of all the music of the new missal, including the prefaces. Does anyone know where to find the prefaces? And--this is pushing my luck, I know--what about the three orations? If not for every Sunday, it would be great to have a bunch of examples so as to get the tones in my head. I can't be the only priest out there who wants to sing the new translation as much as possible, but whose sight-reading ability, or opportunity for weekly practice with a real musician, is limited. Thanks.
  • The only complete set of recordings of the new prefaces that I have seen can be found at http://www.themusicmakers.org/prefacesdownload.htm

I would personally sing them at a lower pitch and slightly slower pace than the cantor on these recordings but these are minor quibbles. They certainly give you a sense of the melodies and recording all of the prefaces like this must have been an enormous job!
  • NPM has posted sound files for the Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany prefaces, and it looks like they will eventually have all of them there.

Probably not useful for all you real musicians, but potentially a big help for preists.
