Part-Time Music Teacher at Regina Coeli Academy for 2010-2011
Regina Coeli Academy is a Pre-K through 8th grade, classical, Catholic school under the authority of the archdiocese of Philadelphia, but with the permission to use our own classical curriculum, including Latin and Greek. We currently have 40-50 students. We are dedicated to being faithful to the magisterial teachings of the Church and the emphasis on a strong, Catholic formation permeates the curriculum. Essential to this curriculum is the music program, as it is integrated with other subject areas. The teacher is encouraged to use different time periods the students are studying in order to teach various elements of music. Time is spent learning to read and compose music, singing in parts, as well as developing an appreciation for Gregorian Chant and Sacred Music. Understanding of the Ward Teaching Method is a plus. Lastly, the music teacher is involved with preparing the students to worship reverently at Mass, singing traditional hymns in both Latin and English.
Last year, the music teacher came in 3 days a week. Each group (2 grades combined) has music class twice a week, so that would roughly be 10 classes a week. It is possible to adjust the schedule so that a music teacher could come in only on 2 days, or just mornings, or just afternoons.
If interested, please contact the headmaster, Joe Austin, at 215-836-2208 or by e-mail at jaustin@reginacoeliacademy.com.
