After moving back to Milw WI area about 1-1/2 years ago and visiting church after church. I found myself driving 40min from home every Sunday to be the Cantor at St. James Catholic Church in Kenosha, WI. We do Adam Bartletts Source & Summit Entrance and Communion Antiphons, and traditional hymns.

But last night I was pleasantly surprise to learn and attend a Gregorian Chant class held at St. Stanislaus Catholic Oratory, lead by Prof. Christopher Berry.
There were about 35 people in attendance. Congratulations to Prof. Berry.
He is the MD there and apparently do the TLM at 10am on Sunday Mornings.

I am pleasantly surprised to know that there are at least a couple of Churches in WI that are still singing the Mass rather than just singing any ole thing.
  • Prof Berry is just a great guy all around. Glad you got to go to that. And St Stanislaus is so gorgeous.

On the west side of the great state of Wisconsin, the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe offers full Gregorian Propers each Sunday with Latin Ordinary settings in either chant or polyphony. There are also educational opportunities in the Gregorian repertory. Here, two events this year which are past, and one upcoming. Chant is alive and well in Wisconsin!

@donr - St. Francis Borgia Cedarburg does much the same repertoire that you describe. However, from what you describe as a 40 minute drive to Kenosha, you must be on the south side of Milwaukee. Cedarburg is probably not any closer.

Would that there was a commitment to chant in the Hudson, WI area. :(
The Twin Cities area (MN) seems to have the closest venues.

  • Scott Turkington is now the DSM at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Enough said.

Scott is an incredible talent! Alas, if only La Crosse were closer to Hudson.

Visited Hudson this summer to drop off a couple of new Sheriff's (maybe P.D.) cars. Couldn't see any remaining 'red lights'.

I thought that Dr. Luckner (organist of Cathedral of S. J. the Workman in La Crosse) was MD at the Shrine. I no longer live in the state but try to keep tabs on things; this one must have slipped under my radar.
