Solemnity of Mary
  • I am not the music director at my church, but I have been planning choral anthems, directing rehearsals and Mass since Sep. The choir had off for the Solemnity of Mary as they usually have off the weekend after Christmas. The music director let me plan and assemble a schola for the 11:15 for Jan 1st. It was a great experience to be able to plan out the music and hymns for an entire Mass! Here's what we did:

    Prelude: Dixit Maria - Hassler
Opening Hymn: Once in Royal David's City
Offertory: Ave Maria - Michael Lorenc (soprano solo)
Communion: O Magnum Mysterium - Victoria
Post Communion: Alma Redemptoris Mater - chant
    Recessional: Hail Holy Queen

The congregation really seemed to like it. This was a great experience for me because I am now going to be stepping down from all I have been doing with running rehearsals and picking music, as I did that to help the new director step in. I'm going back to being a tenor, so this was a "last hurrah", so to speak. This forum really helped with everything over the last couple months. I enjoy reading what everyone has to say. Thank you very much.
