Paid Singers - The Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater, Vancouver, WA
  • The Proto-Cathedral of St. James the Greater in downtown Vancouver, WA is expanding the number of paid singers within the St. James Collegium Musicum, an all-paid professional ensemble within the parish. Positions are now open for SOPRANO, ALTO, and TENOR.

The St. James Collegium Musicum carries on the traditions of the Church by bringing pride of place to sacred polyphony and Gregorian Chant. Music sung weekly at the 9:00 and 11:00am Sunday Masses includes works by composers such as Byrd, Palestrina, Victoria, Stanford and Bruckner, as well English Chant (9am) and Gregorian Chant (11am). Polyphonic Ordinaries and Propers can be heard on Solemnities and Feasts throughout the year. The Collegium is comprised of dedicated professionals who enjoy singing sacred music within the liturgy. The Collegium Chamber Orchestra joins the Collegium for special Masses such as Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, Christ the King, and other major events to sing music from Mozart Masses to major Handel works.

Applicants should have a good knowledge of singing in the polyphonic style, able to sing with minimal to no vibrato, and have excellent sight readings skills. Soloist and cantor opportunities are available for the weekly vigil Mass, Feast days, weddings, and funerals.
