That seems like a real improvement down in St. Pete -- is that true? Or is my memory faulty?

  • Just curious -
It appears from this and our other similar threads that those who are blessed to sing the introits do them before the entrance hymn. Without meaning any insult, this seems backwards to me. At Walsingham we sing a processional hymn (all stanzas) followed by the introit as the altar is censed. This involves the proper introit in the action of the mass.
What are you rationales for the introit-then-entrance hymn arrangement?

I also notice that P's Sicut cervus got sung at several places on Trinity Sunday, as well as here for ordinations. How nice for both. I wouldn't have thought of it as a Trinity anthem, but it's really quite fitting, isn't it?

Well, we had a seminarian request that our ordination choir sing the Te Deum. Bishop nixed it. Too long.

Must keep things moving along! Nothing to see here, folks!

Honestly, the Palestrina works on almost any occasion. It may be a bit overdone for me for a while, however.

The Te Deum too long? Try ordinations according to the older edition of the Pontificale Romanum compared to the Pauline rite.

What is being sung? I have no idea. Ordinations are done at the cathedral and I am never there.

All posts are unnecessary. You need more Zen in your life.

As a practical matter, I am going to ask someone who attends those things. It might be revealing.

MJO introit before hymn is often due to "political reasons", but I will not pretend to speculate on the plans listed above. Boston looks great!

All of these programs look wonderful. I am not involved in ordinations but am experiencing some of this on another front. I am encountering priests celebrating various anniversaries of their ordinations. I don't know what was going on back then, but they naturally want some of the same music as when they were ordained. Some of it is truly awful. The programs above give me hope for the future.

If you want to hear/see it for yourself, it was broadcast by CatholicTV. The Marier "You Are A Priest of God" was quite something indeed!

    Te Deum

This is one of the approved "post communion meditation song" pieces, right?
At least that is what I recall posted in this Forum years ago.
