Appropriate Baptismal hymns
  • We are preparing for my son's baptism in October, which will be according to the EF. I was wondering which hymns would be appropriate. Veni creator spiritus comes to mind, but from what I've read it is used mostly at Ordinations and Confirmations. Also, the Office hymns relating to the Holy Spirit (Veni sancte spiritus; Nunc sancte nobis spiritus) have sprung to mind. Any suggestions?
  • Several of us from St Basil's Schola Cantorum sang recently for an EF baptism. One of the things we sang was Sicut cervus from Liber Usualis.

@MJO we also sing the Sicut Cervus on procession to the Font. We also sing the Antiphon and the Psalm during the Churching (Music also in Liber)

I wonder how many baptismal hymns there are... Will have to look through the Analecta Hymnica.

  • At our daughter's baptism we used some antiphons from the Lenten Liturgy. I've been wondering, however, if there's anything related to the Holy Ghost which could be used.
