Help Identifying an Ave Maris Stella
  • One of the students in my chant group requested that we do the following alternating version of the Ave Maris Stella:

More than happy to oblige her; however, neither she nor myself have any idea who composed this version, or can locate sheet music for it. Is it familiar to anyone here?

The comments seem to suggest that the polyphony is by Guillaume DuFay, but that doesn't match the polyphony at the beginning.

Thank you for pointing us to Dufay's Ave Maris Stella, but it isn't (manifestly) the same piece as the one on the recording.

If all else fails, it shouldn't be too difficult to transcribe.
  • Yeah, my student said she would do that if all else fails. :)

    :-)
  • It's not DuFay.
It sounds like a metered SATB hymn tune.
Nice, too; but I've never heard it before now.
