Italian Funeral Music
  • Hi guys,
We are in need of ideas for Italian hymns/songs that can be sung by choir or an Alto Soloist for a funeral Mass. Not urgent. This will be just to add to our repertoire. Something that can be easily learned, though, as no one in our choir (including our soloist) can read music. They all learn by ear. Our instruments consist of acoustic piano & guitar. (Pianist reads music, guitarist only reads chords.)
Our latest request for an Italian funeral Mass was "Time to Say Goodbye".
I nearly choked on my espresso...

Ah, this is where the jaded Californian suggests consulting the St. Gregory (at least of a 50's vintage) for the scribllings of Montani.

There's a hymnal I bought in Rome way back in 1987. It was called Nella Casa del Padre (in the Father's House) and published by Editrice Elle Di Ci in Torino (Turin) Italy. Anyway, it contains "L'eterno riposo" (Eternal Rest) and "In Paradiso" (May the Angels).

I would consider emailing the Italian parishes in your diocese and asking their organists/choir directors for suggestions.
