Traditional Parish Seeks Singers for Latin Mass (Novus Ordo) in Cincinnati
  • Old Saint Mary's Church in Over-the-Rhine Cincinnati (an Oratorian parish) is hiring four paid choristers for the 2014-2015 choir season. The Mass in which the choristers will sing is the 9:15 a.m. Latin Novus Ordo Mass. The openings are for soprano, alto (or countertenor!), tenor, and bass.

Applicants should have at least basic knowledge of Gregorian chant and proficiency in the singing of sacred music from the Medieval to Modern periods.

The Mass consists of singing the Propers in Latin from the Graduale Romanum (and occasionally from polyphonic composers like Byrd and Palestrina), the Ordinary in Latin (in various forms from Gregorian chant to Renaissance polyphony to Romantic settings with organ), and various accompanied and unaccompanied motets and choral anthems.

Compensation will be somewhat based on skill and experience. Choristers will have first right of refusal for cantoring all weddings and funerals at the parish and will set their own fees for such events.
