Sacred Music Time Machine: May 9, 1965 - Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in El Cajon, CA

If anyone wants to hear what an average good quality music program sounded like in 1965, take a listen.

This is the model that existed before, this is a model any parish can achieve again.

Back to the days when everyone knew their proper role and stuck to it, back before everyone expected a piece of the action.

These days the masses suffer because people without any training are expected to do a good job. No ones proper roles are being recognized, individualized lowest common denominator has taken over.

I hope everyone finds this inspiring
  • It sounds like an EF Missa Cantata they're celebrating. Very beautiful.
  • I think this is from 1964 rather than 1965.
  • The Alleluia chants are omitted entirely; the Offertory and Communion chants are sung (quickly) in psalm tone. This is consistent with widespread practice at the time.

The mass ordinary is delightful, but maybe not suitable. Anybody recognize it?
  • I'm finding the homily somewhat of a period piece too (in the best way).
  • The Mass was on Mother's Day, May 10, 1964. The homily was geared to that.
